News Media Housing Authority Lifts Gun Ban, Restores Second Amendment Rights
Posted by Dizfunkshunal on Mon Feb 08, 2010 09:45:57 (84 reads)

Delaware gun owners and Second Amendment advocates earned a victory this week as the Newark Housing Authority (NHA) withdrew a gun ban that had prohibited its residents from legally possessing firearms in their homes.

The Caesar Rodney Institute (CRI), a research and education organization in Delaware, recently released a series of Special Reports drawing attention to the plight of public housing residents being stripped of their right to self-defense, which prompted swift action from NRA.

Thousands of Delaware’s most vulnerable residents live in some of the state’s most dangerous neighborhoods, and have been prohibited from possessing firearms to defend themselves from the drug dealers and thugs who infest their communities. Violating the gun ban can result in eviction, which for many families would mean living on the streets.

News Media Bill advances to repeal gun ban at State House
Posted by Dizfunkshunal on Tue Jan 26, 2010 15:53:42 (80 reads)

By TOM FAHEY
State House Bureau Chief

CONCORD – The House Rules committee today allowed Rep. Gene Chandler, R-Bartlett, to file a bill that would repeal the weapons ban now in place at the State House.

Earlier this month the committee blocked Chandler's bill, which he proposed after House deadlines had passed. At the time, a joint House-Senate committee that controls uses of state buildings was considering a second vote on the ban. Rules members said until that issue was settled, and the ban was still subject to being overturned, it would be premature to allow the introduction of the bill.

News Media Senate OKs guns-in-vehicles bill
Posted by Dizfunkshunal on Tue Jan 26, 2010 15:50:32 (46 reads)

By KEVIN ALLEN
Tribune Staff Writer

INDIANAPOLIS — State senators were forced to choose between property rights and gun rights Monday, and the latter won in a landslide.

The Senate voted 41-9 to approve a bill that would make it illegal for employers in Indiana to adopt policies that prohibit workers from having firearms in their locked vehicles on company property.

The bill's sponsor, Sen. Johnny Nugent, R-Lawrenceburg, told his colleagues on the Senate floor that people should be able to keep legally permitted firearms in their vehicles so they can go hunting before or after work, or defend themselves if needed on the way to or from their jobs. It would not prevent employers from banning guns inside the workplace.

News Media Cape Coral(Florida) Police to distribute free gun locks
Posted by Dizfunkshunal on Sat Jan 23, 2010 01:58:33 (40 reads)

The Cape Coral Police Department now has 500 additional gun locks to distribute free of charge to residents who keep firearms in their homes.

The department again acquired the locks through “Project ChildSafe,” which is a component of "Project Safe Neighborhoods."

The death of 2-year-old Ian Heath Allen of Fort Myers, who died after he accidentally shot himself on Jan. 11 with an unsecured firearm, prompted Cape Police Officer Gerald Moll to contact the organization and press for additional locks.

National Rifle Association Three Important Pro-Gun Bills on the Move in Indiana!
Posted by Dizfunkshunal on Thu Jan 21, 2010 20:16:00 (44 reads)

Please Contact Your State Legislators!

The Indiana General Assembly will be very busy in the coming days with three very important pro-gun bills recently passing out of committee. House Bill 1065 and House Bill 1068 are expected to be read for a second time on the house floor, while Senate Bill 25 is expected to be taken up for a full vote on the senate floor. All three bills could be heard as early as Monday, January 25.

HB1065, sponsored by State Representative Bob Bischoff (D-68), would prevent state or local government authorities from confiscating lawfully owned firearms during declared states of emergency, such as occurred in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. Moreover, this bill would also prohibit employers from firing employees who safely and lawfully store their firearms in their privately-owned locked vehicles while on an employer’s property. HB1065 passed out of the House Natural Resources Committee on Wednesday, January 20.

National Rifle Association Supreme Court Repeals Unconstitutional Restrictions on Political Speech
Posted by Dizfunkshunal on Thu Jan 21, 2010 18:05:25 (34 reads)

Fairfax, Va. - The National Rifle Association praised the U.S. Supreme Court's decision today in the case of Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, removing unconstitutional restrictions on the NRA’s ability to speak freely at election time.

The late Sen. Paul Wellstone had said during the original debate over this legislation that it was his intention to silence groups like the NRA. While the author of this measure had singled out the NRA, this law delivered a clear message to all American citizens: “Keep your mouths shut and stay out of our political debates.”

News Media Guns n' adoptions bill sailing through
Posted by Dizfunkshunal on Thu Jan 21, 2010 17:16:51 (34 reads)

A bill that would ban adoption agencies from asking prospective parents about whether they have guns in the home moved through The Health & Family Services Policy Council with a unanimous vote.

The bill, sponsored by Republican Rep. Mike Horner of Kissimmee, was partly inspired by his efforts to adopt a child through the Childrens Home Society. Turns out, the society asked if he owned a firearm and what kind. That worried Horner, who wondered if his mere ownership of a firearm would be held against him -- and worse. Could the agency, a state contractor, be keeping a list of firearm owner?
