The Caesar Rodney Institute (CRI), a research and education organization in Delaware, recently released a series of Special Reports drawing attention to the plight of public housing residents being stripped of their right to self-defense, which prompted swift action from NRA. Thousands of Delaware’s most vulnerable residents live in some of the state’s most dangerous neighborhoods, and have been prohibited from possessing firearms to defend themselves from the drug dealers and thugs who infest their communities. The Senate voted 41-9 to approve a bill that would make it illegal for employers in Indiana to adopt policies that prohibit workers from having firearms in their locked vehicles on company property. The bill's sponsor, Sen. Johnny Nugent, R-Lawrenceburg, told his colleagues on the Senate floor that people should be able to keep legally permitted firearms in their vehicles so they can go hunting before or after work, or defend themselves if needed on the way to or from their jobs. The Indiana General Assembly will be very busy in the coming days with three very important pro-gun bills recently passing out of committee. House Bill 1065 and House Bill 1068 are expected to be read for a second time on the house floor, while Senate Bill 25 is expected to be taken up for a full vote on the senate floor. All three bills could be heard as early as Monday, January 25. HB1065, sponsored by State Representative Bob Bischoff (D-68), would prevent state or local government authorities from confiscating lawfully owned firearms during declared states of emergency, such as occurred in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. Moreover, this bill would also prohibit employers from firing employees who safely and lawfully store their firearms in their privately-owned locked vehicles while on an employer’s property.
